The Top 5 Tracks of Ibiza 2013 by Shazam

Shazam has taken things 1-step further in the world of track ID’s.

In addition to being every music fan’s best friend (and Dixon’s worst nightmare – listen at 2:17), Shazam recently used geo-locating to determine the most Shazammed songs of the 2013 Ibiza Season.

I heard Ninetoes – Finder at a club recently and a friend who had just returned from Ibiza looked at me and said, “I have no clue what song this is but we heard it EVERYWHERE in Ibiza. It’s definitely the hottest track of the year.” I went on to hear it at multiple underground places in NY and of course… used Shazam to ID it.

The label, Kling Klong Records, is home to some seriously sexy, thick, techy, gorgeous music.

A chunky, soulful track for any season, this bad boy has a dude that sounds like Nate Dog singing about some hot sh** and comes from Play it Down Records in London.

If you’re not onto Marc Kinchen you need to be. He’s been around for years and years and years.

He hit #1 on the US Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart in 1993 and 1994 and produced Celine Dion’s first and only #1 dance chart hit. Recently he’s remixed and produced for Lana Del Ray, Dev, Enrique Iglesias, Sky Ferreira, Ellie Goulding, Jamie Jones, Lee Foss and Tricky.

His remix of Nightcrawlers – Push the Feeling On was the basis of Pitbull’s global hit record, Hotel Room Service.

Defected is pretty legendary when it comes to sexy dance music. Label boss Simon Dunmore has more respect than nearly anyone. The Defected Podcast is without question one of the best.

More freshness from Defected Records. Dennis Ferrer you should know. And not because he got kicked off the decks at Mansion for playing good music (which actually happened). Nicky Curly is a perennial favorite of the dance music underground, reaching as high as #51 in the 2011 Resident Advisor Top 100.

How ironic that after Dixon voiced his displeasure at people using Shazam at shows, Shazam included one of his label’s tracks on the list.

Clearly the coolest thing about this is the door Shazam has opened. In theory it could be a new source for music charting. If they’re including YouTube in the Billboard counts then why not?
